Based on data from West Java Department of Transportation, during mudik season the numbers of cars that passed through Pantura Highway is getting descent. The descent of the cars then followed with the descent of accident numbers. According to the Regional West Java Secretary, Iwa Karniwa, 3% compared to the last year.

On 2017, Pantura highway were passed by 1.145.818 cars, 42.423 on Middle Highway (Jalur Tengah) and 890.999 on South Highway. On the other hand, on 2018, 1.182.294 passed through Pantura Highway, 37.0762 in Middle Highway and 76.976 on South Highway.

Iwa says, on Day-1 last year, 8 accidents happened with 6 people were dead, 3 got serious injury and 17 people got minor injury. This number far from this year where there is no accident happened during Day-1.

“Overall, there are significant descent of traffic jump and also accident and victims,” he said.

He also explains about evaluation on mudik 2018 event. He opins, based on the data from Department of Transportation of West Java, on Day+1 the traffic increase about 66% dan 12% on day+2.

All of the highways, he concludes that citizen prefer to used Pantura than Middle and South Highway. He assumes citizen prefer to used Pantura since the existance of Trans Jawa toll road that functionally operated, although it was not 100% operated.

After evaluating mudik event this year, West Java Regional Government interested on trying to auction the construction of Gede Bage – Majalaya – Tasik – Banjar toll road along 106 Km length. Unfortunately, this plan is still discussing with BPJT (Indonesia Toll Road Authority).

“If the connectivity in middle and South Highway were increased, mudik will be divided and the traffic won’t be too crowded,” Iwa said.

“But, we need all support from both central government or regional government. If it realized, South Highway will have a good infrastructure to used to the citizen whom want to mudik in efficient and pleasant way,” he added.
